What is Step up?

Step Up is a membership-based innovation community run by Jisc in partnership with Emerge Education. We are bringing together edtech founders and education leaders to increase innovation and support long term change in UK education. Edtech founders who join the Step Up community can look forward to a streamlined procurement process, guidance from sector experts and access to senior institutional members.

Step Up members go through a robust assessment process that leads to receiving the “Assessed by Jisc” badge and Step Up report. Those who choose to participate in the Step Up events also attend annual tailored events for Step Up companies and senior leaders from institutions across the UK. These include opportunities for focused networking and promotion.

Am I eligible to take part in Step up?

Step Up has been designed to support edtech startups with a working product, a business-to-business (B2B) sales model, that is looking to sell or break into the UK institutional market. If you are interested, but not sure whether you would benefit from the programme, please contact us and we would be happy to talk with you.

How much does Step Up Cost?

Please see our Benefits page for the cost and features.

What benefits and features can I look forward to if I sign up to the Step Up Programme?

Take a look at our Benefits page to read all about the benefits and features of Step Up. For a quick reference, you can download our Step Up Fact Sheet.

What information do I need to provide?

Please see the application page for all the information required to apply.

How long does the assessment process take?

It depends on the company, but in general the process, start to finish, takes 1-3 months. The commitment on behalf of the company during that time is about 8-16 hours. Total length of time dependant on the preparation of the company.

What if I need more time to produce the evidence required?

Step Up members are welcome to take as long as you need to prepare your evidence for submission. You have access to the webinars for the entire time, as well as monthly opportunities for one-to-one mentoring sessions with a Step Up expert.

Who will have access to the information I provide?

The application information is confidential, and only available to the Step Up team. The evidence criteria you submit as a part of the assessment process will only be available to our internal staff and assessors for evaluation purposes.

What if I need to update my company information after my assessment?

You will be able to send us administrative, and informational updates about your company that we can update in the reports. Any changes to the report that may require updating portions of the assessment will require supporting documentation, and an administrative fee.

How long is the badge valid for?

The badge is valid to Step Up members as long as you are a member of the Step Up programme. However, we require that each company re-validates their assessment each year in order to receive and use the current year’s “Assessed by Jisc” badge, and keep their feature page on our website.
